About the labThe Zhu lab was established in 2005 when I came to Lamar Unversity. It started with 5 Phantom Omni haptic devices from SensAble Technologies. The lab has experienced significant growth since then.

NSF: Assisting Engineering Education with Mobile AppsHere you can find out more details about the Multimedia Engineering Education with Mobile Apps, sponsored by National Science Foundation grant DUE/TUES-1140457.

NSF: Haptic-augmented Dynamics Learning Project Website Here you can find out more details about the Haptic-augmented Learning for Dynamics, sponsored by National Science Foundation grant DUE/CCLI-0737173.

About haptics, virtual reality and augmented reality Haptics is about the research and development in 'sense of touch'. I am interested in computer haptics which investigates the simulation of touch and force among virtual objects in a virtual reality environment created by computers. Augmented reality is promising for many applications.

About design and manufacturing I have been working on design and manufacturing for a decade. In particular, I am interested in computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), gemoetric modeling, CNC tool path planning, and integration of haptics into CAD/CAM. See the lab page for more details.

About GPU computing and engineering optimization GPU computing is an emerging technology for desktop parallel computing. I am interested in GPU computing in general engineering optimization and the combination of GPU computing and Grid Computing. See the lab page for more details.
